Free-running, which has evolved from the French movements of 'L'art du Deplacement, and Parkour, shares the idea that it is not just about moving from A to B, but as a way of testing yourself physically and mentally, to see if you are strong, as embodied by the 'lingala' term (an African language) associated with the sport, 'Yamakasi' which means 'strong mind, strong spirit'. Free-running also comes from a powerful philosophy that humans need to be in better connection with their environments, and that it is possible to see an obstacle as a challenge, rather than a limitation. We think this is all good, and have found that lots of the young people we work with, from all different kinds of backgrounds, respond very well to it. Free-running has had a massive rise in popularity over the last few years, and now there are World Free-running championships and accredited courses in Free-Running. Our free-running sessions will take you from basics, like precision-jumps and rolls, to the acrobatic elements , and using obstacles and the skate ramps to practice moves like kongs, and cat-leaps.
